AudioDesign

The term “audio design” refers to the specific dynamic processing of one or more frequency bands. The aim of the sound processing in broadcasting is the constant volume of an audio signal, both in language and in music, and the simultaneous limitation of a signal from the audio input of the transmitter so that no level crossings occur in accordance with statutory provisions.

Sound processing can significantly improve the sound of a station or – set bad – even worse pretty. At the sound processing on the radio, the dynamics of a signal, ie the difference between the quietest and loudest sound is compressed (squeezed). The result is a limited dynamic range and a resulting subjective auditory sensation louder with the same maximum level.

By influencing several factors in the dynamic compression, eg with attack and release times, you can get a music signal “tight” and “fatter” sound, without exceeding the permitted maximum level. We are talking here of limiting / clipping.
